Outline

This presentation introduces a novel heat pump system that recovers waste heat from the London Underground and assesses its potential benefits in terms of reducing energy costs and emissions, which can be further decreased if heating and cooling are integrated. The talk also highlights the potential for waste heat in general as a valuable resource for cutting down carbon emissions whilst also improving energy security across the UK.

Presenter: Dr Henrique Lagoeiro

Henrique is a research fellow at London South Bank University, where he investigates how the exploitation of waste heat through heat pumps and district energy can be key for decarbonising cities. Current winner of the prestigious Ted Perry Award, Henrique was also the 1st place winner at the 7th DHC+ International Awards and voted Best Young Energy Efficiency Researcher at the World Sustainable Energy Days 2022.
